And an Aussie patient in one of the London hospitals (a victim of the bombings) asked our Prime Minister who was visiting (doing the morbid look-see more like it) if he, the PM thought that Australia could be bombed because of our involvement in Iraq and the stupid fucking jerk said NO, that he didnt believe that our country would be bombed because of our involvement. It would maybe bombed because of Terrorism activity but not for being involved in Iraq.

I think us Aussies have been very very lucky so far but I really dont think our luck is going to last much longer. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Howard tells bomb victims: no Iraq link

Prime Minister John Howard denies the war in Iraq is linked to the bomb attacks in London as he visited two Australians severely injured in the terror blasts.

Mr Howard arrived in the British capital from Washington and with his wife Janette went immediately to the hospital bedsides of Gillian Hicks and Louise Barry.

His visits came on the eve of talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair about terrorism and amid moves by the British government to start withdrawing troops from Iraq during the next year.

Ms Hicks, a fashion design consultant from South Australia, is recovering in London's St Thomas' Hospital after having her legs amputated following the bombings in the British capital.

Ms Barry, who suffered a broken neck in the blasts, hopes to be released from the University College Hospital by Friday but faces months of recovery at home in the care of her partner, Dan.

With her brother Barry and mum Sue at her bedside for the prime minister's visit, Ms Barry asked Mr Howard if he thought the bombings were related to the war in Iraq.

"What do you think about all this sort of stuff then?" she asked Mr Howard.

"Everyone says it's all because of the Iraq war."

Mr Howard disagreed, saying that while everyone was entitled to their point of view, terrorist attacks had been carried out on several countries before the Iraq war.

He said while Australia was vulnerable to an attack, it was less likely to happen.

"I don't think there's the concentration of groups in Australia that might produce it.

"But I think it's still possible and I've said that, and it can happen anywhere, unfortunately," he said.

Ms Barry, an environmental crimes investigator originally from Port Stephens on the NSW north coast, was travelling to work on the bottom floor of the double decker bus which was ripped apart in Tavistock Square in central London by a suicide bomber.

The force of the blast pinned Ms Barry under some of the wreckage of the bus, causing her to suffer a fractured vertebrae and a large gash in her leg.

Mr Howard told reporters he was inspired by Ms Barry and Ms Hicks.

"I think the motivation (of the bombers) is the same as the motivation of the people who murdered 88 Australians in Bali, which took place before the Iraq war," he said.

"The motivation that murdered 3,000 in the World Trade Center on the 11th of September 2001, which took place before the Iraq war.

"And that is a perverted, twisted, and totally immoral depiction of extreme Islam.

"I think that is their motivation."

Ms Barry said she was "bloody lucky" to be only leaving a few surgical stitches behind.

"I've had a couple of days now that I haven't cried, so to me that's a good sign," she told ABC Radio.

"Tomorrow is the big day so I've just got to wait for them to take the other nine or 15 or something stitches out of both of my legs and then I'll be moving back home, so that'll be another new experience."

Asked if he would consider visiting the injured Australian women's cycling team in Germany, Mr Howard said he was sensitive to their recoveries and thought such a trip might pose difficulties at present.
